Khamh Bik Thawng receives Building Industry Foundation Award

17 November 2020

Congratulations to VU Polytechnic carpentry apprentice Khamh Bik Thawng, recipient of the 2020 Master Builders Association of Victoria’s Building Industry Foundation Award.

This prize is awarded to an apprentice who has achieved success and aspires to continue learning and developing, who may also have overcome challenges during their apprenticeship.

Originally from Myanmar, Khamh Bik moved to Australia in 2012. Having always had an interest in working on construction sites, Khamh Bik decided to pursue a carpentry apprenticeship at VU Polytechnic.

Not only has Khamh Bik developed great carpentry skills over this time, but he used it as an opportunity to work on his English language skills.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Khamh Bik says would like to help others with low-level English skills to enter the workforce. The judges were impressed with Khamh Bik’s initiative along with his keenness to continue his professional development.

Khamh Bik’s teacher Haydn Radford recognised him for his outstanding performance and enthusiasm for learning, his mature and conscientious attitude to study and his sound knowledge of carpentry practices.

“Khamk is a good example of reward for effort. He always worked well with others and produced high-quality work.”

Congratulations Khamh Bik!
