Live Works transportable homes is a pre-apprentice carpentry program where Victoria University Polytechnic can quote and build dwellings for clients who are owner builders.
The program gives carpentry students an opportunity to deliver a project from start to finish.
Our pre-apprentices construct transportable dwellings following a plan at VU Polytechnic’s multi-million dollar construction hub.
Dwellings are delivered to a lock-up or partial fixing stage, ready to transport to your destination. The design can be provided by yourself or we can recommend a draftsperson to assist you in drawing the plans. Owners are responsible for transporting the finished dwelling.
For information on the step-by-step process and full responsibilities of the project download the Live Works responsiblity flowchart.
In 2015, the VU Polytechnic Live Works program helped construct and install temporary housing in a public Footscray carpark for the Big West festival.
Designed by architects and quality controlled by women who've experienced homelessness, HOUSE was built by students from VU Polytechnic and Monash University.
