To keep the VU Polytechnic community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, most VU Polytechnic students have access to supported remote learning. This means you can continue to study the same high-quality program from home.
We recognise the importance of real-world learning, delivered by real-world industry experts. That is why you’ll get hands-on experience in your field at our City King student-run clinics, providing services to members of the public under the guidance of expert trainers. You will also have the chance to showcase your skills through an extensive events calendar, including community competitions and fundraising activities.
We have solid relationships within the fashion, entertainment and creative arts industries, giving you the opportunity for incredible work experiences. Our graduates have gone on to work in television, theatre and film and are regularly employed in some of Australia’s finest spas and salons.
Our screen and media (specialist make-up) students have gained experience on productions including Australia’s Got Talent and King Kong, and overseas opportunities like New York Fashion Week.
Massage students learn at our multi-million dollar Sport and Recreation Learning Centre at Victoria University Whitten Oval Stadium (home of the Western Bulldogs), where they work with the players and manage the massage clinic.
Jessie McAllister's success story
“I completed my hairdressing apprenticeship at Victoria University Polytechnic as a work-based training student. My mentor believes it is the best institute for salon training because of its focus on on-the-job learning.
My greatest career achievement so far has been winning the Apprentice of the Year 2015 award at Hair Expo Australia, the biggest trade event in the Southern Hemisphere for the hairdressing industry.
Thanks to the teaching and guidance I received, I now have an amazing level of understanding and technical skills in relation to everything hair.”
