Outstanding results for VU in latest student experience survey

Victoria University has received outstanding results in the 2022 Student Experience Survey (SES) for domestic and international undergraduates.

For the first time since the introduction of the VU Block Model^®, the University has exceeded the Australian average for Teaching Quality for all undergraduate students (VU= 80% compared with 79.9%), placing VU 22nd nationally and 3rd in Victoria (just behind Deakin at 83% and Swinburne at 82.6%). The highest performing institutions in the nation were around 88%.

As VU celebrates the fifth anniversary of the introduction of the VU Block Model^®, this result is a testament to the First Year College with its focus on transition pedagogy, showcasing expert, and teaching-focused academics. The success of this led VU to embrace the Block mode across undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

VU’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker said:

The improvements are buoyed by VU’s continued performance in Learner Engagement which sees the University ranked 3rd nationally and – once again – number one in Victoria. This result demonstrates VU’s continued commitment to placing students firmly at the centre of the learning experience.

These positive outcomes across the board, has led to an increase in overall student satisfaction. VU is now ranked 24th in Australia for Quality of Entire Educational Experience (up from 41 in 2017) with 75.3% students satisfied, just falling short of the national average by 0.4% (75.7%).

And the good news continues. VU is now ranked 8th nationally and number one out of all Victorian institutions for the Quality of Entire Educational Experience for onshore international students (VU= 79.9%, 6.4% above the national average), with a 10% increase on 2021 outcomes.

In a highly competitive market for international students, VU’s ability to differentiate itself in terms of an outstanding student experience is a major asset. Outstanding Learner Engagement rankings are driving this, with VU ranked 6th nationally and 1st in Victoria (7% above the national average) and through improvements in Teaching Quality (2.8% above the national average), ranking us 11th nationally and 2nd in Victoria.

Vice-Chancellor Shoemaker said the University must remain bold and creative in providing the best-possible learning resources to support the VU Block Model^® and to meet the changing needs of students.
